JRU IT Department Joins IBM Business Analytics Summer Training

The Jose Rizal University IT Department under the College of Computer Studies is more than fortunate to be invited to the Business Analytics training this Summer, April-May 2013. This is in coordination with CHED and IBM Philippines Global Center for Smarter Analytics. This started with a Smarter Analytics Education Forum held last March 20, 2013 at the IBM Innovation Center at UP-Ayala Technohub, Quezon City where several universities, institutions and IT organizations took part in the discussion on the importance of having analytics as part of the curriculum and the probability of considering it as a track or a specialization. The session was graced by resource speakers from IBM Canada who provided key insights on analytics and curriculum implementation. This was attended by Dr. Milani M. Austria, Dean for Computer Studies and Ms. Arlene Mae C. Valderama, Chair of the IT Department.

 

This was then followed by an invitation sent to the institutions including JRU to participate in the 4-part training converging the topics on:

• Fundamentals of Business Analytics
• Fundamentals of Enterprise Data Management
• Business Intelligence/Descriptive Analytics using Cognos
• Predictive Analytics using SPSS

The first training was held at Asia Pacific College last April 22-23, 2013 and was graced and opened by the Country General Manager for IBM Philippines, Ms. Mariels Almeda Winhoffer. Also present was CHED Chair for the Technical Panel for the Business and Management Education Program, Dr. Oscar Torralba. This was conducted by Mr. Sherwin Pelayo.

It was Dr. Torralba also who handed out the certificates of completion for the Fundamentals of Business Analytics training held at APC. This was attended by Dr. Milani M. Austria, Ms. Arlene Mae C. Valderama, Ms. Mengvi P. Gatpandan, Ms. Mary Ann B. Taduyo, Ms. Nelly D. De Leon, Ms. Jyr Marie V. Reyes, Mr. Roel C. Traballo, Mr. Meljun P. Cortes.

The training on the Fundamentals of Enterprise Data Management was held at the IBM Innovation Center Manila at the UP-Ayala Technohub in Quezon City.

The third training is on Prescriptive Analysis using IBM Cognos. JRU attendees is composed of Ms. Mengvi Gatpandan and Mr. Daniel Dasig Jr. We are more than happy to say that Ms. Mengvi Gatpandan took and passed the IBM Cognos Certification Exam! Kudos to her!

Lastly, the training on Predictive Analytics using SPSS was attended by Ms. Jyr Reyes and Mr. Arthur Aguilar on May 14-17, 2013 at the IBM Innovation Center, UP-Ayala Technohub in Quezon City.

All training held were sure a big help to the faculty development plan of JRU and is sure to aid our students in the latest of the Business Analytics track as we integrate them in the elective courses.
