ITC 53 - IT OJT Visit Day

The last school year for the graduating batch 2015 has started last June 2, 2014. For many BSIT seniors, this is also day 1 of their On-the-Job Training outside the university. As the 1st Semester is only intended for their OJT class, they are exposed to the different settings in the IT sector of which they are currently employed as interns to IS divisions of their chosen companies.

Last Friday, August 7, the OJT advisers gave them surprise company visits to see how they perform and manifest their IT skills outside JRU.

The first group of BSIT interns are employed at the country's leading telecommunications service provider, Philippine Long Distance Company.

In this photo are OJT Advisers Ms. Gatpandan, Ms. Taduyo, Ms. Valderama, a representative of the Enterprise Service Assurance Department, and the BSIT student interns as System Training Assistants and Inventory Assistants.

BSIT Seniors Donate MIS to Two Metro Manila Schools

The IT Department has always been keenest when approving titles for the Systems Analysis and Design Information Systems Project Study.  Advisers and subject teachers have to make these students slash proponents make every consultation period count as they let students go back a number of times only to make sure their additions per chapters in the documentations are well discussed and points are always well taken.  Two noteworthy submissions for school year 2012-2013 define this article. One is on the Management Information Systems proposal on: Enrollment Management System, Grading System, and Library System developed by Kevin Padilla of WAN Development Team and this system is proposed to Pateros Catholic School in Metro Manila. The other is the Management Information System on Online Enrollment Management System, Online Grading Management System, Performance Evaluation Management System developed by Charlie Mae Monzales, Benedict Llarena, Justine Catudio, Carl John Rodolfo, Michael Kevin Villaverde and this is proposed to Our Lady of Guadalupe College in Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City.

We are more than proud to say that after 6 months of careful monitoring in the proposal and 6 months of supervision in the design and development of the two MIS, one has already been turned over to the school for its use and advantage. This is humbly donated to them and obviously at no other cost.

It is the Department’s pride taking part in this momentous event we call, the 1st Turnover Ceremony of the BSIT Students of their Information Systems Project Study. The ceremony took place at the Director's Office of Pateros Catholic School and was held last July 12, 2013. This was attended by the Dean of Computer Studies & Engineering, Dr. Milani M. Austria, IT Department Faculty & Technical Adviser of Ms. Mengvi P. Gatpandan, JRU SOCI Director, Ms. Myrna Nidea, and Kevin Padilla, BSIT developer. Representatives from Pateros Catholic School include Mr. Jeson C. Sarmiento, Student Services Head, Mr. Joseph Conrado S. Jacer, MIS Officer, and Ms. Luz Ison, Registrar.

The ceremony was welcomed by Mr. Jeson C. Sarmiento, Student Services Head of Pateros Catholic School. This was then followed by a message from CSE Dean Austria. The turn over of the MIS was initiated by Kevin Padilla. A message was also delivered by Mr. Joseph Jacer, the MIS Director of the school.

The other MIS developed by Charlie Mae Monzales is set to be turned over on August 2, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe College in Addition Hills, Mandaluyong CityIndeed, this is a level up for the IT Department and for the BSIT students of Jose Rizal University.

Animo Rizal!

Frosh Day & Orientation 2013

How universities welcome their freshmen sure gives first impressions and huge expectations. How the IT department welcomed their freshmen got them to know the school's mission, vision, and their program objectives. They also get to know their curriculum flow, who their faculty are (plus their competencies), some discipline policies, the organization they can call their own and what's in store for them every single term from academic needs to extra-curricular activities!

The IT department held their "Frosh Day & Orientation" last June 27, 2013 at the JRU Auditorium. There was a morning session which was filled by 5 BSIT sections and 1 BSBA-CSC section. The afternoon session was jam-packed by 6 BSIT sections and 2 BSIT-AGD Major sections.

Dr. Milani M. Austria, Dean of Computer Studies and Engineering delivered the welcome remarks and discussed the mission and vision of the school with little adverts on how JRU started. Ms. Arlene Mae C. Valderama, Chair of the IT Department shared the objectives and competencies of the BSIT program and its curriculum flow. She also introduced the roster of IT faculty stating their bachelor and advanced degrees. Dean Ma. Luisa Z. Saba of the Office of Student Affairs acquainted the freshmen with her office staff, pertinent student services offered, and discipline policies.

The department also introduced the officers of their resident organizations, the JRU Computer Society and the OJT Senior Batch. An informative discussion was also imparted to itemize relevant activities for the academic subjects and how the current students have been doing about their JRU journey. An invited alumnus was also given a part in the program to share how the IT department has molded him and to encourage the freshmen that they too can achieve success by believing in themselves and choosing happiness while earning their degrees. Of course, the program is clenched with entertainment in between which spiced up the hours. Here are short Magisto and Animoto video clips to show glimpses of the program.

Mentoring Sessions in the JRU IT Department

"Good mentors begin by making the person feel welcome and creating a stimulating sanctuary. They then establish what the person wants to explore during the session."

"Good mentors share ideas, tools and models the mentee can use to achieve success. They pass-on this knowledge in a way the person can accept."

In the Jose Rizal University IT Department, one of the items in its annual Faculty Development Plan is the mentoring session. During a period of time of usually in a week, faculty who have expertise and skill sets conduct sessions to colleagues in training and imparting knowledge plus actual skills laboratory practice on certain areas in web development, database management, object oriented design. This summer term's mentoring sessions include:
